Twins & Triplets part 3

A friend joked that the Twins & Triplets series can be explained using Pokemon.

When 3 of the same components come together to form a new word, it is like 3 x Magnemites combining to evolve and become Magneton.

Or Dugtrio which is essentially a Triplet of Digletts

Just like these 2 sets of Pokemon, we have 2 sets of "triplet words" to share today.

They are:

1. 石 磊

Triplets of 石 = 磊

1 石 = stone or rock

3 石 stacked like a pyramid = 磊 lěi

On its own, 磊 literally means a pile of stones. Figuratively, it means greatness or openness.

It is most commonly used as part of the phrase 光明磊落 guāng míng lěi luò.

You can use this 成语 to describe someone who is an upright and big-hearted person.

2. 金 鑫

Triplets: 3 x 金 = 鑫

1 金 = gold

3 金 = 鑫 xīn

With so much gold stacked up, you can probably guess it has to do with wealth and prosperity.

鑫 is a relatively rare word but you might come across it in names due to its auspicious association.

For example, local gold jeweller Luvenus, with stores in Changi Airport Terminal 2 and Nex Mall, is known in Chinese as 晶鑫金饰 jīng xīn jīn shì. (金饰 means gold ornaments while 晶鑫 is the brand name)

As a jeweller and retailer, you can see why the word 鑫 features in their name.
